Volunteer Opportunities Board of Directors
Please understand that we are all parents of children that require extra attention. Our first priority is our family. We stand by the saying "family first". If you decide to take a board position and find your families' needs are affecting your time, please tell us. We can either replace your board position with someone else, or have your position on hold until your family is well. In order for us to be successful and help not only our own children but the children that follow with Protein Intolerance, we need to come together as parents to educate our communities.
The organization can not take any action without the approval of a majority of Board Members. (i.e. No one person can "run" the organization.)
Responsibilities Include:
- 1 Year Term of Service
- Attendance of annual meeting and semi-monthly board meetings (held via conference phone calls)
- Bring ideas and input into the organization
- Approve proposed activities via voting
- Govern all of the organizations activities
- Attend board meetings
- Participate in committees if required
- Ensure that organization's activities are geared towards achieving mission and goals
- Approve annual budget presented by Treasurer
- Responsible for carrying out the organization's mission and goals
(i.e. promoting public awareness of organization in your own community)

Medical Advisory Board
Participation is strictly voluntary and there is no compensation. You will receive acknowledgement of your participation in our organization on our website and in certain printed materials. We will promote any books or publications that you may have by listing them and/or links to them on our website. If desired, we will list your medical practice information on our website. Best of all, you will receive the satisfaction of knowing that you are giving back to the community and helping to end the needless suffering of countless protein intolerant children and their families.
Our mission is to improve the lives of protein intolerant children and their families by providing information, resources, support forums, and by promoting public awareness and supporting medical research.
We plan to fulfill this mission by accomplishing the following goals:
- Empower families
- Become the number one source of information for families and medical professionals
- Promote early diagnosis and treatment
- Promote awareness and education in the public and the medical community
Any Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathy, or Research Professional interested in volunteering his or her health care knowledge to help The PIC Foundation fulfill our mission and goals is eligible to participate.
How do I participate?
Interested parties may submit their CV or resume to The PIC Foundation Board of Directors. We will conduct a telephone interview to make sure we are a "good fit". Once appointed to the panel, the new volunteer will sign the Medical Advisor Agreement and serve a renewable term of two years.
What are the functions and obligations of the Medical Advisor?
There is no set schedule or commitment for participation. The PIC Foundation Board of Directors will contact you when your support is needed. There are no regular meetings to attend and no travel is involved. Attendance at our annual education seminar is encouraged, but not required. Almost all contact is via email or telephone including voting. If the Panel members or The PIC Foundation Board of Directors deems a meeting necessary, it will be scheduled at the Panel member's convenience via conference call. The average time spent is about one hour per month at your convenience.
Responsibilities Include
- Provide guidance to The PIC Foundation Board of Directors by sharing your ideas, thoughts, and suggestions to assist in accomplishing our mission and goals.
- Review and approve by Panel vote, all educational materials to be published by The PIC Foundation and distributed to the medical community and the public at large.
- Promote The PIC Foundation and its mission to your colleagues and patients by having The PIC Foundation printed materials available in your office and by identifying yourself as a The PIC Foundation Medical Advisory Panel member when applicable.
- Keep The PIC Foundation Board Members and Medical Advisory Panel members apprised of the latest research and information regarding protein intolerance relating to your field of practice.
- Keep The PIC Foundation Board Members apprised of any opportunities to promote our mission including attending and/or presenting at any of your professional organization's meetings, conferences, etc., attending and/or presenting at any community or professional function that you think may advance our cause, and any fund-raising opportunities that you become aware of.
- Partnership for Cures (our parent organization) has a program called Two Years to Cures. In brief, it is a program that supports research to re-purpose medications for rapid cure of childhood disease. Although protein intolerance is not technically a disease, we are all encouraged to submit any ideas we may have to help treat or cure this disorder.

General Volunteer
We are still in need of people who have a few minutes a month to donate to help The PIC Foundation. We are looking for people who would be interested in doing research, designing and promoting products, setting up and maintaining database of people who receive emails, mailers etc. We also have other areas where your help would be greatly appreciated.
